Just before Halloween, our student, Melina, wrote a spooky story in her creative writing lesson. She wrote the story on a computer to enable her to edit her work easily. You can read it in full below:

As a result of my failure in a bet with my friend, Kieran, I was forced into being sent to the sinister graveyard in the dead of night. I stood reluctantly at the entrance of the graveyard and felt a chill down my spine as a dozen pumpkins laughed menacingly at my forfeit. As I trod on the muddy ground, a soft hush of wind blew a pile of crisp autumn leaves in my path.

I viewed a haunted house a few yards in front of me, its brick walls crumbling from years of neglect, with shattered windows that I imagined had been broken as the monsters held within attempted to escape. Most frighteningly of all, the house’s dark oak door swung back, tempting me to take a step inside. Out of nowhere, I heard a deafening screech, followed by the sensation of being watched.

Slowly and cautiously, I entered the house of mystery. My footsteps echoed through  the corridor until I heard another scream. I was unsure of who it was, but it sounded like a human, which only added to my intrigue. As I drew closer to the terrifying noise, I became more and more tempted to runaway, but my curiosity overwhelmed me. In front of me, black doors filled the corridor, each one closed shut as if someone – or something – wanted to prevent me from entering. I agreed with them. Yet, at the end of the hallway there was one door that had been left slightly ajar and was welcoming me inside.

I summoned the courage to open the door, grasping the dusty, golden handle in my shaking hands. The ancient floorboards creaked underneath my feet and I saw a child roughly my height with his back to me. He continued to scream until he heard me asking if he was OK. He turned around casually and laughed. To my amazement, I ran up to him and shouted, “Kieran! Why did you do that to me?”
