We pride ourselves on supporting parents and on really getting to know our pupils. We work in small groups so that we understand each child as an individual - we know that Anthony’s K’s always look like W’s, that Louis wants fractions circles this Christmas because he loved them in class, and that Lily likes the pink highlighter because it remains her of “unicorn hair”.
By paying such close attention to our students, we’re able to craft lessons that are fun, engaging and highly informative. We’re extremely proud that many of our students say they learn more in an hour with us than they do in a week at school. We know we have a system that works and we’d love you to become a part of it.
After-School Tutors (maths and English)
We are looking for tutors to cover maths and English tutors to work with students between ages 4 and 16. You'll have the opportunity to specialise in working with a particular age group and will also be offered training so that you can take on a wider range of pupils. Reasoning experience is a plus.
Our classes take place on weekdays after school (from 4pm to 6.30pm) and on Saturday mornings (from 10am to 1pm).
We are looking for a tutor to work a minimum of two shifts a week. Tutors will be able to select which days they'd like to work.
We also have opportunities for ad hoc work either during term-time or during holidays. If your interest is in temporary/ad hoc work, please apply as normal, stating your preference in your application.
Training and Structure
If you’re thoroughly new to teaching, your training period will last about 6 months. During this time, you’ll be working alongside our existing tutors and helping with their groups. You’d also need to watch some training videos at home.
If you’re an experienced or qualified teacher, training is likely to take 6 to 12 weeks. This will give you time to become accustomed to our way of working and to adopt a couple of the techniques that we use as standard (although you’ll have plenty of opportunity to incorporate your methods too).
Upon completion of training, you’ll get a salary increase and will start taking your own groups to work with. Our teaching groups use the Kin Learning materials and follow our syllabus. You will be responsible for planning the content for these classes and ensuring that you have the materials you need. All marking is either completed by parents or by our assistants in class, so you won’t be need to take any of the children’s work home with you.
As you’ll have your own groups, you’ll be required to work during set hours each week during the school term-time. During the holidays, lessons are scheduled on an ad hoc basis and you’ll have the opportunity to increase or decrease your hours during the holidays.
Outside of term-time, we run mock tests and summer schools for students that you’ll be welcome to work at, if you wish.
Competitive hourly rate. Please contact us directly for details.
If you think you have what it takes to inspire our students, please send your C.V. and cover letter to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Teaching assistant roles are open to applicants aged 16 and over. Assistants must be able to work a minimum of one day a week, with study leave provided and the opportunity to increase or decrease work during school holidays.
Teaching Assistants work to support our tutors in their classes, providing additional help to students where necessary and taking care of administration, such as marking books and assigning homework.
Personable with great initiative and excellent spoken grammar.
Applicants with As and A*s in maths and English GCSE are preferred, however, keen applicants with B grades are encouraged to apply. Experience with children is a plus, but we are happy to provide training and support to any applicant with the right skills and attitude.
From £7 an hour.
